Two Minute Warning: Last Reminder O’ the Year

By mikeychx

This whole  post is a cut and paste from last Fridays Two Minute Warning…Why the laziness? Well to be truthful – all of the information I put out last week was really geared towards thisweek….so the information simply fit the bill for this week too…So without further delay: It’s spartyball1Two Minute Warning time boys and girls…just a friendly reminder to update your Gridiron Playoff Challenge roster for this weekends divisional round games. I did promise however to give you guys a quick update regarding the rules. This week  you have to have one eye on the current week and look ahead to the Super Bowl as well. What exactly do I mean? It goes like this…

Roster slots lock individually at the scheduled start time of each player’s game. The first lock is the weekend of the NFL Playoffs on Saturday, January 3, 2009 (exact time TBD) and you can change the players around as often as you like up until this time. After the Wild Card Weekend is completed, you will be able to select a new roster for the Divisional Playoffs games. After the Divisional Playoffs are completed, you will again be able to select a new roster if you wish. This is the last roster change period available as the roster you have set for the Conference Championship games is frozen for the remainder of the playoffs (i.e. the Super Bowl as well). The roster change periods are listed below:

Period #1 (Wild Card Weekend): Game launch (Dec. 22) until first kickoff of the Wild Card Weekend games (Jan 3 – time TBD)

Period #2 (Divisional Playoffs): Shortly after the Wild Card Weekend games are complete until first kickoff of Divisional Playoffs (Jan. 10 – time TBD)

Period #3 (Conference Championships): Shortly after the Divisional Playoff games are complete until first kickoff of Conference Championship (Jan. 17 – time TBD). This is the final roster lock.

In order to maximize your possible points for the game, you should have active players for the first 8 games of the playoffs. In other words, do not play any players from teams that have BYE’s during the Wild Card Weekend games.

Period three is specifically what I am talking about…You are going to have to be savvy about your picks, in essence you have to pick the players that will be playing in the Super Bowl. So - I wanted to put that out there as you look ahead. None of that matters this week though…just pick the best players possible under the salary cap.

If you think you have no shot at winning – you may want to consider doing what I did for this week – which was to pick what I think is the exact opposite of what everyone else will be picking

mikey, were you cheating off my paper? that’s exactly what i did. other than to fit a good player in, i had to pick one guy from a 3rd team

I picked all Giants and Titans. I’m pretty sure no one else will be picking them.

I am in 4th place now so I am going for the marbles. Basically though, you only want players from the two teams you think are going to win as far as I understand it. If you can’t change the roster for the Superbowl and you are only starting one QB, RB or WR, then you are at a huge disadvantage to a guy who has two at each position.
Basically, you are picking the two teams you want to win and then the players from those two teams or am I missing something here.

They should only let you start one QB, 1 WR and 1 RB for the SB but after reading the rules that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Also, the money each player costs is really stupid in my humble opinion. If a starter costs around 5-6, then a backup who most likely won’t play or won’t score is worth 0.5-1.5 in my judgement, not 3 or 4.

Basically, it all depends on who everyone thinks is gonna win this week and that’ll shake it all out in the end…if we all pick the same 2 teams, there won’t be much variance…I’m pretty sure I maxed out how I want my team and I’m going for broke now.

I pretty much replaced most of my roster and I’m still under the cap by 0.3 or so…shouldn’t matter how much the backups cost.
