Well, we’re one day closer to the weekend. And I don’t know about you guys, but it’s been a long week already.
Today’s a great day though! Why? Because the Winter Dew Tour started up last night! And, who hasn’t been anticipating the Winter Dew Tour? Breckenridge, CO…skiing…snowboarding…The Flying Tomato in the Snowboarding Superpipe…that’s must see tv!
Grab your coffee and let’s get on with it…
Looks like the Big Televen country is pretty cold right now. Too bad the conference’s collective bowl performances didn’t provide some heat.
So, one of OJ’s former lawyers thinks The Juice is crazy!? Huh; who knew?
I’m always kinda fascinated by ticket prices. Tennessee just realeased what they’ll be charging for single game tickets next season. Not surprising, they didn’t increase prices. My guess is they would have had a rough go at convincing people to pay even more considering how…what’s the word…disappointing last season was. How much do you guys feel comfortable paying when it comes to tickets?
The Rambling Wreck just landed one of the top basketball recruits.
This is another one of those stories that earns Rick Reilly a bit more of that large paycheck.
So, who expected USC’s Mark Sanchez to declare for the draft and Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford to forego the draft? Definitely not me. I expected the exact opposite, actually. Trey and I previously gave you our preseason Top 5 and this somewhat unexpected news changes mine for sure. Yeah, Oklahoma is losing a large portion of their immovable O-line, but they’ve usually got good depth with replacement guys chomping at the bit to get some action. And, USC’s got Arkiesaw primadona Mitch Mustain (and his coach-killing mom) waiting in the wings to take over for Sanchez. All that being said, I feel it’s necessary to drop USC from my top 5 and replace them with Oklahoma. Side note – the 2009 season will be the first in history to see all of the top three vote-getters (Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Tim Tebow) for the Heisman return to school.
Has anybody mentioned this around here yet or are we avoiding inciting some rage from Sparty? Is there such a thing as a life coach for famous people? Athletes who seem to always be enveloped by drama are usually responsible for attracting said drama into their lives. Somebody get Plax a life coach to call plays for him off the field…STAT! Speaking of Plax and crazy wide receivers in general, Tom Coughlin said he’s “not ready” to welcome Plax back to the locker room just yet while, in the meantime, Ed Werder and his mustache are reporting that sources say TO may be released by the ‘Boys.
It took the Kings 52 minutes and 58.6 seconds to get past the Warriors…the Lakers lost to the Spurs on a walk-off travel…the Thunder increased their season win total by 16.7% just by beating the Jazz…Chris Paul came just 3 steals shy of a quadruple double in a Hornets win over the Mavs…and some other games happened too.
Obligatory baseball link…incase you don’t want to read it either, the cliff notes are that the Yankees are mean.
Here’s an appropriate comparison: the situation with Oregon State basketball compared to the one Obama will inherit in just a few days. Those are aptly comparable, right?
#1 Pitt, #2 Wake, and #3 Duke all rolled to W’s last night…the #7 Sparty’s survived the one-time Johnson City, TN native-led Nittany Lions…the #8 ‘Cuse were taken down by the #13 Hoyas…the rest of the college roundball scores.
Conan seems to feel the same way the rest of us do about the annoying Fox robot:
I’ll leave you with a bit of sad news from the past week on two fronts. The first being that the Petty/Gillete Evernham merger is off to a bit of a rocky start. And, the second is the death of a notable “Hee Haw” cast member, Jim Hager of the the Hagar Twins (raise your hand if you’ve ever seen an episode of “Hee Haw”).

That Conan bit is great. GatorTrey(Quote)

I look forward to seeing Brad Miller on the studs today. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
Good Morning, Gentlemen! The temperature outside is -22°F. This is one of the rare times I’m wishing I was somewhere else! HawkEye19(Quote)
that is kinda cold. sparty(Quote)
I guess I can’t complain that it’s 9 degrees here. john(Quote)
12 here. sparty(Quote)
Cold here too.
41. GatorTrey(Quote)
41? That’s shorts weather up here. HawkEye19(Quote)
He has to end up in Oakland, doesn’t he? john(Quote)
nah, he wouldn’t go somewhere that they can’t win at all. sparty(Quote)
Then he wouldn’t have anything to sabotage. The Mark Show(Quote)
going to be a light day at S&Fs. sparty(Quote)
It’s a chilly 35 here in Houston Johnny(Quote)
How exciting…. talk about the weather. Wake me when we’re ready to bash Romo (we all know it’s his fault TO isn’t performing well), discuss the Dodgers releasing Andruw Jones (and tarnishing his legacy) or the Hoyas big win over ‘Cuse last night. natsfan74(Quote)
Only 2 NFL teams have not win a single playoff game in this Millennium. Who can name them? natsfan74(Quote)
Andruw Jones to the Yankees. Book it. john(Quote)
john, i could see them giving him a 1 year deal. sparty(Quote)
Lions and Cowboys sparty(Quote)
Houston and Detroit. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
looks like there are 3. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
that question doesn’t make sense. sparty(Quote)
That Sparty is a genius…. Detroit is obvious. They suck and have sucked for quite some time.
But the ‘Boys? Really? that one is hard to figure.
KWSN – I am sure you are right on Houston as well. Maybe they didn’t figure into the trivia since they haven’t been around that full time. natsfan74(Quote)
wait, cleveland has? sparty(Quote)
i remember the Browns blowing a huge lead against Pitt a few years ago. sparty(Quote)
Since Houston has never had a winning record I am quite sure they’ve never even been to the playoffs. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
maybe it was the only 2 NFC teams. sparty(Quote)
I didn’t make the question up myself… maybe it should have been which non-expansion teams… or something like that. This came from pre-game coverage of the Cardinals first playoff game and when my friend asked me last night I guessed about 5 teams (detroit was too obvious) and never came close to even considering Dallas. natsfan74(Quote)
Sparty you are correct, that is Cleveland’s only playoff game this century. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
The Buffalo Bills have also not been to the playoffs this century.
That question = fail. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
Oh, I have made sure to remember that Dallas hasn’t won shit in a long time. sparty(Quote)
the question that was asked before the game was probably in reference to which NFC teams haven’t won a playoff game this millennium. sparty(Quote)
A lot of AFC teams haven’t. Add Kansas City to the list too. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
i got one…Pats fans should know this…
What NFL player laid the hit that injured Drew Bledsoe early in the New England Patriots 2001 season leading to Tom Brady taking over and leading the Pats to an 11-5 record and Superbowl win? sparty(Quote)
Also the Bengals lost their only playoff game to the Steelers. knightwhosaysni(Quote)
Jeff Gillooly? knightwhosaysni(Quote)
I should know the answer, because I send him a thank you card every year….but I’m drawing a blank on his name. john(Quote)
and my next question…
Who was the only golfer in PGA history to make a hole-in-one on a Par-4 when he did it in 2001? sparty(Quote)
Miz, I’ve seen HeeHaw.
As a kid, the cartoon donkey always threw you off.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty.
Or…
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Chet Atkins. gatortrey(Quote)
Shit Sparty wasn’t it Corey Pavin? I know it hit off another golfer’s pag gatortrey(Quote)
no, trey, no. where is spencer? sparty(Quote)
Looked it up. I was wrong. gatortrey(Quote)
Where’d you pull that one out of, sparty? HawkEye19(Quote)
trey – glad somebody here has seen Hee Haw. I was beginning to get pretty disappointed in the lack of culture from our commenters. mizerle06(Quote)
Hee Haw wasn’t that popular up here with the old folks crowd. Lawrence Welk on the other hand… HawkEye19(Quote)
is his coffin decked out in fine Corinthian leather? sae(Quote)
Hawkeye- i have deep disturbing amount of sports trivia in this brain. leaves very little room for anything else. sparty(Quote)
Never seen Hee-Haw at all, miz…sorry. rekcalsa(Quote)
Who’s gonna be the Stud O’ the Day today?

let’s go make fun of Florida. sparty(Quote)
I believe it was Mo Lewis who ptu the hit on Bledsoe. The Mark Show(Quote)
DING! sparty(Quote)
I loved Hee Haw as a kid. Maybe that’s why I love NASCAR now?
Only one NFL player has multiple career runs of over 90 yards.
The Ace question is a good one….caromed off a putter and everything? I had to look that one up. natsfan74(Quote)
natsfan-bo or barry sparty(Quote)
Bo — and he should have had a 3rd. He got tackled after 88 yards in a playoff game against Cincinnati in the hit that ended his career. natsfan74(Quote)
I had to cheat, but can you name the guy who ended Bo’s career? sae(Quote)
Marcus Allen? natsfan74(Quote)
