The Morning After____________. You guys fill in the blank. For Sparty, the blank would have something to do with the Giants….or if he forgot about the Giants…maybe 24 (no spoilers – I have it on Tivo). For Rek the blank would have something to do with the Giants too…For Mikey and Trey it would have something to do with QB#15 made our day….For some it would be the Chargers losing, for others it would involve the Celtics ending thier four game skid…
Yeah…I got right to the links without a clever lead in…shoot me. I guess I just didnt have any clever in me… I was busy golfing yesterday…You see for some reason it was 88 degrees and sunny here on Sunday – so golf was followed by going to the beach, which caused me to watch football Blackberry style….lots of refreshes and slow reloads….but I cant complain. Who gets to go to the beach in January? Besides – It could be worse…I could be a Giants fan….
Anyways…enough of the barbs from me – I know there will be alot of shit levied to the NYFBG fans here by the rest of you – and I dont have a vested interest in any of the teams left so I will letting that dog lie.
So – lets sum it all up for you. The Cardinals beat the Panthers and The Eagles beat the Giants which gives us an NFC Championship home game for the Arizona Cardinals (AYFKM?). Meanwhile, the Steelers beat the Chargers and the Ravens beat the Titans - giving Pittsburgh the AFC Championship hosting duties.
I know I mentioned Tim Tebow’s decision to bring the University of Florida another BCS Championship next year. Here’s the video though from the post celebration news conference…there are some videos on youtube of the celebration…they all kind of suck though (the videos not the message)…TWTWCFB will be along later today to take you through the rest of the stories….
32 and an NFL Head Coach….where did I go wrong in life? Just a hunch on my part – Bill Belichick did not clone himself, and if we are including even Eric Mangini – absolutly none of his coaches have had sustained success yet…I am thinking Josh McDaniel follows this trend.
In other NFL Coaching news…Tony Dungy will tell us what he is thinking of doing next year today….If you leave Tony – please take Brett Fav-ruh with you – and thanks for all you did for the Tampa Bay Bucs and for being such a classy guy.
Geoff Ogilvy killed it at Kapalua to open the PGA Tour season with a six shot victory over Ryder Cup hero Anthony Kim and the resurgent Davis Love III…I only bring this up because I like golf. I wont force it on you as long as you dont force soccer and hockey on me….deal? Deal.
NBA coverage will be along soon with GITC ignoring anything Paul Pierce did or didn’t do…not to mention Rodney Stuckey. The Lakers won - and thats kind of all I really care about… The Magic won which is all Trey cares about…and the Pistons didn’t play which is all Sparty cares about….. If you care Philly, Phoenix, Golden State, and Sacramento won…
Miz will be happy to know there are no hot stove stories while I am writing this. But there was this great interview I found with “story breaker” Ken Rosenthal just to piss him off.
One note to pass along re: baseball….HOF announced today I think…Rickey is in - who else gets in with him?
Well – press time on this is Sunday night…As far as TMA goes this one is kind of weak…but I didn’t get to watch anything yesterday and there wasn’t alot of great links floating around last night….if something else breaks Ill be sure to add it – other wise, Ill see you guys around lunch to take the heat for not making the start to your Monday as awesome as I usually do.

i’m going to say eagles because the cards always disappoint, but i’m torn on the other game. their two games this year were close and it’s tough to win 3 against the same team in one year
and because some people need some cheering up

i think the most important thing that we learn form this past week, is that I beat down Mr. Basketball himself, gitc, 7-1. Oh, and I played 4 less games than him.

Report: Giants may keep Burress
(Quote)
john-i have thought that if he doesn’t get jail time, they would keep them. They don’t turn their back on players even when they screw up. You never hear anyone bad mouth management. i think there is a good chance that Goodell doesn’t suspend him, because they acted so swiftly in their punishment.
(Quote)
…but isn’t jail time inevitable?…or has Bloomberg forgot about him already?
(Quote)
jail time is never inevitable when it is a celebrity.
(Quote)
sparty-
I think that the only way that he doesn’t get an NFL suspension is if he goes to jail. The other problem is that he’s clearly going to jail. If you’re the Giants you can pray he’s only in jail for 1 year and can be back in camp but that seems unlikely. It looks more like he’ll be in jail till at least the middle of the 2010 season. But the Giants are better without him. Yeah, that’s it. They’ve really come together as a team.
/losing your best player is never good
(Quote)
if he goes, they will go after Boldin.
(Quote)
The Giants aren’t the Yankees. They can’t just outspend.
(Quote)
kwsn-they are under the cap already, and the cap grows by like 30 mil next season.
(Quote)
they also might be able to void burress’ contract.
(Quote)
He ain’t going to jail. His attorneys will file a crapload of motions hoping to hit on one. The state will lose ground. They’ll reduce the charge to get below the minimum mandatory,
(Quote)
i want to see GITC challenge the lawya.

Wait it was 88 an Sunny there yesterday???
While I was out for the Rose Bowl I went to the beach. It was 55 and foggy
Not cool
(Quote)
seriously, the cards are hosting the NFC Title game? unreal. Let me axe you guys a question. say the cardinals pull this out of their ass, does Kurt Warner go to the HOF? guy has serious success and has put up sick numbers.
(Quote)
HOFer before this miracle playoff run and definitely a HOFer after.
(Quote)
He was already a hall of famer.
(Quote)
seriously, before?
(Quote)
i realize that the NFL is easier to get into than baseball, but not as easy as basketball.
(Quote)
I think Warner would need this SB win to get into the HOF. I’ve never thought of him as a HOFer before.
(Quote)
Two MVP’s, a Super Bowl ring/MVP and a bunch of stats is enough for me.
(Quote)
the NFL requires at least 4 guys go into the Hall in every vote, correct? then, yes, if Warner takes the Cards to the SB and wins, he’ll be a HOF’er.
(Quote)
He is very comparable to Steve Young. Steve Young was a starter 9 season. Kurt Warner 8. They both have won one Super Bowl.
Steve Young: 232 tds 107 int 33124 yards 96.8 rating
Kurt Warner: 182 tds 114 int 28591 yards 93.8 rating
Steve Young is slightly better but he was also first ballot HOF.
(Quote)
funny; mrs. miz asked me that same question when I told her Lane Kiffin’s age (33) when he took the Tennessee job.
(Quote)
when i see a mid 20s midget wining the MVP in baseball, that makes me bang my head against the desk.
(Quote)
If each respective leagues hall of fames were women.
Baseball – a chick hanging at the library on Friday nights and working the Hallmark store on the weekends
Football – a girl who gets wild every once and awhile.
Basketball – “the hole”
(Quote)
Steve Young has 50 more TD’s and roughly 4500 more yards in one more season than Warner. Warner would have to have the best season ever to make up that ground in one season. but, having said that, the stats are fairly comparable so Warner should be in.
(Quote)
kwsn- interesting stat comparison with Young and Warner. Young with the greatest receiver ever, and Warner with the best receiving RB ever.
(Quote)
Here is a list of quarterbacks who have made it to multiple super bowls. Only 2 of them that are not active players that won a super bowl are not in the HOF. Plunkett and Theisman.

how many more games to did Steve Young start?
(Quote)
I don’t know that I understand what you mean, Trey; but it was funny nonetheless. +1
(Quote)
143 GS by steve young. only 85 by warner.
(Quote)
I honestly was surprised Theisman and Plunkett aren’t HOF. Careers too short maybe?
(Quote)
good point.
(Quote)
wait…Warner has only started 60% of the amount of games that Young started and he’s only one exceptionally outstanding season from passing Youngs stats!?
Warner’s a HOF’er lock then.
(Quote)
kwsn-throw Phil Simms onto that list as well. You can thank Ray Handley for that. Hoestetler never should have started over Simms once he came back from injury.
(Quote)
so what’s the over/under on number of times we hear the reference “from bag boy to Hall of Fame” when Warner’s inducted?
I’ll set it at 158 times. anybody want in on that action?

+6 john
(Quote)
@john – your fix implies that Favre at some point stopped being a douchebag. I wholeheartedly disagree with this.
(Quote)
I do applaud your effort though…+1.
(Quote)
think that’s backwards. HOF to douche-bag for Favre. he was somewhat likable and had most of his success early in his career
(Quote)
No mention of 24 last night?
(Quote)
I’d like to call it the “Earth stood still, Wind was calm, and Fire was extinguished” edition.
(Quote)
john-mikey asked for no spoilers. but it was a good first 2 hrs.
(Quote)
earth was OK, the rest of the offense sucked ass
(Quote)
john–The first 2 hours set the stage for what is to come…nothing crazy but it sets up the main players as expected…I liked it so far…tomorrow is supposed to be the first major shocker according to previews.
(Quote)
On Warner as HOFer…I think before this season he was on the cusp…after this season and the stats he put up, he’s probably in…if he somehow gets to the SB this year (/not gonna happen), he’s a surefire bet to be 1st ballot…and you know he’s gonna keep playing at least another year or 2.
(Quote)
Solid first 2 hours of 24. Can’t wait for tonight. Does anyone else here not watch the previews for the next episode? I’ve found it makes the show even more enjoyable.
(Quote)
I thought 24 was good, not great (yet), but it has potential.
(Quote)
On the Rosenthal interview…he’s a baseball guru and his kids don’t even follow baseball?? I can understand the wife not caring since she grew up outside of that…but the kids haven’t picked up on his baseball jones-ing and even follow it a little bit? Wow.
(Quote)
Hmmm…not watch the previews? Interesting idea. I might have to try that.
(Quote)
TMS–I watch it because I feel it’s predictable enough usually that the previews don’t really give anything away that you wouldn’t be able to predict as you’re watching it…I don’t care if I miss them though…probably does add a little suspense.
john–It definitely has potential…the 1st 2 hrs aren’t usually crazy…all plot setup.
(Quote)
Steve Young never had a Marshall Faulk to hand the rock to. Warner could’ve had 50 more TD’s on the Rams alone. can’t ding him on that stat deficiency
/any mention of 24 i’m going lalalala
//please note **Spoiler warning**
//Dvr’d
(Quote)
rek- the first major shocker won’t be much of a shocker, all it is going to be is….

(Quote)
you have this week to choose who you have for the next 2 weeks.

OMG BigD.
I don’t even know where to start. Ok. How about Montana at #4? yikes.

So someone who takes McNabb and Warner this week is pretty stupid. (of course it wasn’t me, what)
/thanks for the clarity
(Quote)
@Marco
Even more surprising, no mention of Steve Grogan anywhere on the list.
You know what, this deserves its own post. I’ll get working on that… sometime tonight.
(Quote)
unless you want to be sure that you get stats.
that is why if you are looking at a defense, it will be hard to choose bet. pitt and balt.
(Quote)
i will have to pick warner no matter what…its the only way i catch the guys at the top…otherwise i have already lost if i pick the same guys

again, you have to make sure you are within the salary cap or else it will not count.

yeah yeah… i know…i already tried the 1998 denver bronco route….it didnt work

I’m pretty sure that SI just gave you the best 8 QB’s as a group. I don’t think those were ranked in any particular order.
(Quote)
probably right, john. King would have made sure Favre was first.

How is McNabb not getting fined for picking up the Giants phone?
shouldn’t that have been a 15yd penalty for the use of a prop?
