Well, after weeks of hype and controversy, we found out why CBS aired the Tim and Pam Tebow commercial sponsored by Focus on the Family, and not a gay dating site commercial. Both commercials …

The Morning After: January 7, 2009

Happy Hump Day!  Ok, so it’s not a holiday.  So what?  It’s been the “Holiday Season” for so long, how are we supposed to move on!?  How can we be expected to transition immediately back to 5 day work weeks after multiple 3 or 4 day weeks!?  Those are unrealistic expectations and somebody should call OSHA or the ACLU or somebody else that may care.  Maybe the Utah Attorney General?  He seems to have extra time on his hands…

Here we go: Part I - Lawsuits (Courtesy of said Utah AG)

To succeed in a lawsuit, he would have to prove a conspiracy exists that creates a monopoly.

i.e. The BCS isn’t capitalist.  In fact, it’s illegal…and it’s communist!  And if we actually vote the BCS CG winner as the national champion, the terrorists have won!  You don’t want that on your conscience, do you!?

At first, I wasn’t sure how I should feel about this.  But then , I realized this is a good precedent and probably a sound business decision.  Of course, I should preface by saying that I’m not pretending to know the intimate details of Jagodzinski’s contract or relationship with Boston College administration.   In my mind though, and in the simplest form, if the coach has a contract with a school and can pay a buyout to leave at any point to take a different job or can be paid a buyout to be fired for poor performance, then interviewing for a different job can and should be viewed as disloyal and a firable offense.  In fact, I think if a coach interviews for a different job without the blessing of his current employer, the coach should be eligible to be fired without a buyout.  So…there.

Where to, Jeff Robinson?  Seton Hall?  Saint Joe’s?

Here we go: Part II – Everyone’s a Champion!
 - The case for Utah (this one’s my favorite though)
 - The case for USC
 - The case for Texas
 - What the hell…split it into 4 pieces!

Shaq, buddy…you’re reaching, brah.  You paid $18.8 mil, originally asked $35 mil, and you think dropping down to $25 mil is doing somebody a favor?

Let’s talk a little race, shall we?
 - Yale has hired its first black head coach since ever.  I bet you guys didn’t know that Tom Williams will only be the second black head coach in Ivy League history; the first was Norries Wilson at Columbia in 2005.  Even the SEC had a black head coach in Sylvester Croom before the Ivy League.
 - Whoa; hold your horses on the SEC diversity pride…black Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is claiming that his interracial marriage to a white woman is causing him to lose job opportunities in the south.  And, apparently, this isn’t the first time this has come up this year:

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley said last month when he said “race was the No. 1 factor” why Auburn chose Iowa State coach Gene Chizik over Buffalo coach Turner Gill. Gill, a black man, also is married to a white woman, and ESPN later reported that two Southeastern Conference coaches said Gill got passed over for the job partly because of his interracial marriage.

Apparently, the reporting done by ESPN was Mark Schlabach reporting to “Outside the Lines” that (via Deadspin) “two other SEC coaches told him, straight up, that Gill would never get the Auburn job, because he’s married to a white woman.”  Those are strong words.

Lebron, you know I love your skillz, man.  But please, explain to me what a “crab dribble” is and how it can be effectively and legally executed.  I need to know this.

(Warning: NSFKBD*) WHOA…just, WHOA!!  GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!! For any of you single whippersnappers out there, don’t cross an Aussie lass.
*Not Suitable For Keeping Breakfast Down

Wanna look back at that draft-day deal that the Memphis Express Grizz made with the Minnesota Timberwolves?  By the way, when did OJ Mayo = maturity!?  I thought he was supposed to be selfish with a shoot first mentality.

It looked pretty wet in Mobile (Mo-beeyl), AL (Alabammer) last night for the GMAC Bowl.  Tulsa rolled Ball State.  There’s only one bowl game left!

Not good…Titans center won’t play against the Ravens this weekend.

Obligatory Lukewarm Stove update: Hoffman to the BrewersJuice-on Giambi to the A’s?

There was some roundball last night:  NBA – here’s some scores, looks like Gilbert’s showing progress toward reinjury, stay tuned for GITC’s Studs & Duds (I bet there won’t be too many Celtics Studs), College – couple of big Big East wins last night (UConn, Villanova in OT), Sparty did their thang to tO$U, unranked Arkansas overcame a halftime deficit to beat Texas, and there was other stuff too.

Happy Russian Orthodox Christmas!  Get you some coffee and hang out for a bit.
