The Morning After: January 5, 2009

By mikeychx

The Morning AfterBig surprises for everyone this weekend?  Not so much? I guess it all depends on whether or not you may have had money on the games. It was definitely a weird feeling though not being into too many of the games. I can’t really say why either. Was it because I was sick? Were you guys into the games? There wasnt too much traffic here over the weekend so it was hard to gauge. I think we were all recovering from the holidays by finally – well…actually taking a few days off to relax before having to go back to work…taking down the lights and stuff – or just vegging out….what ever you did, I hope it benefitted you the way all of the sleep I had this weekend benefitted me. Anyways, we all know by now that Philadelphia beat Minnesota, Baltimore beat Miami, Arizona beat Atlanta, and we wont have a Manning Bowl…So where does that leave us going into next week?

Saturday
6 Baltimore @ 1 Tennessee 430p
4 Arizona @ 2 Carolina 815p

Sunday
6 Philadelphia @ 1 NY Giants 1pm
4 San Diego @ 2 Pittsburgh 445p

So what are the early returns on the outcomes? It’s hard not to favor all of the top seeds….but when was the last time that happened? If there is to be an upset where is it likely to happen? on second thought, you look at those games and (Sorry Sparty) you can see any of them going either way….scary if you are a fan of any of those top seeded teams.

Personally, I see Baltimore @ Pittsburgh and Carolina @ NY Giants turning into Pittsburgh  and NY Giants Super Bowl…..any thoughts contrary?

Analysis and previews throughout the week.

A couple of highlights and links from the games this weekend in case you missed them. You know like Brian Westbrook sealing the game for the Eagles speaking of the Dolphins….Ed Reed interceptions only go for TDs. Troy Aikman’s analysis is spot on…Finally…the death of the Manning Bowl ended here.

Did anyone elses see this dance with Erin Andrews? Best thing ever is that this happned in college. What would the fine be for an NFL player….whatever it would be –  I am sure it would be worth it.

You know why blogs are better than main stream media? We gave you this link on Saturday morning….and this showed up on ESPN on Sunday. Blogs rule.

Any Chiefs fans out there? If there are – you are sure to enjoy this little piece by Jason Whitlock regarding the General Manager position. After reading it, the only thing I could think of was…How would Matt Millen fuck this up?

All of the big bowl games are this week. Including the BCS Championship that Florida will win on Thursday night. Let’s enjoy these memories of bowl games past, shall we?

Speaking of the BCS….why wont athletes ever learn to just keep their mouth shut?

UNC lost….to Boston College? Oh my. I wanna comment on it and tell you all about it, but I didnt watch it. Anyone wanna cover that for us? No…okay (reads recap) It boils down to a lockdown on Tyler Hansborough and the rest of the Tarheels looking lost. Look for UNC to lose the #1 spot this week.

Re: Boston College: An interview with an NFL team is a reason to fire your coach? If it is legal – you kinda wonder how long before all colleges start employing similar tactics. In reality, a simple lawsuit will probably solve that stance soon enough.

BREAKING NEWS: There is a lot to fucking cover….shit.

Anyone been to ESPN this morning? Beta is now reality. I fucking hate it. Maybe It’s time I just switch to Yahoo Sparty and Friends for all of my sporting news from now on.

Al Davis is selling part of the Raiders? I am sure what ever part it is …it’s not enough.

Bill Parcells is staying in Miami…at least thats what sources are saying. Ill talk to Glazer later and tell you what he says.

So Bill Cowher isnt gonna coach this year….Will Mike Shanahan? Wade Phillips hopes not. The Packers found their fall guy. I thought for sure Cowher would end up in NY…I wonder what is keeping him from saying yes??

Rickey Henderson is a lock to make the HOF this year….will Jim Rice finally join the fraternity?

Regarding baseball….why didnt this happen a week or two ago….this seems like ancient history.

What is Fan House thinking?  Seriously, Mariotti?

All right…I got no feeling left in my fingers….GITC will hopefully be by in a bit to recap the NBA action…but if the Celtics cant beat the Knicks…he made need more time to figure it out.

TWTWCFB? Probably will recap the bowl games and/ or preview tonights action. Anyone got anything to add? If you are an author feel free to amend below with your thoughts.

I will be along in a while to review your critiques.
