Happy Hour: < 1-1/2 Days Left…

By mizerle06

Never heard of this brew; I just couldn’t think of anything specific so I decided I’d try something new; so, I’m going Croatian today.

Anybody counting down to the new year?  I’m not.  I couldn’t care less that the moment that Wednesday becomes Thursday, the calendar turns over to another year.  Somebody please explain to me why December 31-to-January 1 is any more significant than May 4-to-May 5.  Somebody?  Anybody!?  See, that’s what I thought.  I guess you could call me a New Year’s Grinch, but that would be childish and petty for you to resort to calling me names on a classy medium such as the internet so I know you wouldn’t do that.  Whatever; it doesn’t matter anyway.  The calendar will roll over, folks will party hardy, and I will prepare for bowl games aplenty on the 1st, 2009.

Anywho, we had a pretty solid slate of posts today.

Sparty used The Morning After platform to complain that he’s bored at work because the holidays are keeping businesses closed and work slow.  Hold on just a sec while I call the WAAAAAAAAmbulance.

Mikey hit us up with part 1 of 4 of some sweet “we report; you decide” wildcard previews for the NFL playoffs.  Part 1 covered the Atlanta v. Arizona matchup…stay tuned for parts 2-thru-4.  This series of posts is concrete evidence that we truly believe that our readers are smart enough to jump to their own conclusions if presented with some basic facts.

Mikey rocked us again today, this time with a linky to the new Sparty & Friends Gridiron Playoff Challenge where we’ll do what we do best – come up with contrived competitions in order to see guyinthecorner over-analyze and justify his picks, sparty talk major smack to anyone and everyone, and that mizerle06 guy fail miserably and finish in last place.  Join up; there’s a $25 Starbuck’s gift card on the line.  Mikey had planned to announce the winner of the $50 Visa gift card from the Sparty & Friends NFL Pool Challenge that we’d been running the entire season.  However, he wanted me to let you all know that, unfortunately, he ”overslept” and has a “plane to catch” so he’s teasing us for one more day.

The USAToday college football preseason’s pollsters were told unceremoniously to Get Off Miz’s Lawn today…and with good reason.  Gatortrey went to jail and, somehow, the conversation turned from the oblongball to the roundball…better than a stick-and-ball tangent, I guess.

Finally, gitc continued to baffle us with his NBA Studs & Duds formula…apparently 1 rebound coupled with 1 steal and 0 points is worse than 0 rebounds and 0 steals with 0 points…go figure *shrugs*.

We’ve got some college football on tap this evening:
Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl - Maryland vs. Nevada – ESPN – 12/30 – 4:30PM
Texas Bowl* - Western Michigan vs. Rice – NFL Network – 12/30 – 8PM
Pacific Life Holiday Bowl - Oklahoma State vs. Oregon – ESPN – 12/30 – 8PMhh-logo-stock

We’ve got 6 college basketball teams ranked in the top 25 playing in 6 games tonight, 9 games from The Association, and 8 games from that hockey league that I could have sworn had moved to Canada.

There’s lots of sports to be had tonight.  Enjoy and make sure to spend a minute or two with your family to appease them and keep them off your back while you’re watching the competition of your choice and hanging out in the comments below.

*The Texas Bowl is one of the 11 games deciding the Rocky Top v. Shorty-short Jorts wager.  A Western Michigan win could make this veeeeeery interesting…
