The Morning After: December 10, 2008

By sparty

Let us continue on our saga with our favorite coaching search…just kidding.

Does their seem to be a big of a lull in sports right now?  Should there be?  We are entering into the last 3 weeks of the NFL season, and race’s for the Wild Card are as tight as ever, but very little buzz about it.  What is that about?

I blame ESPN for focusing so little on every other team in the league.  I can see them talking a lot about the Champs, the Titans, and even the Arizona Cardinals, but we constantly see them focusing on the Dallas Cowboys.  Do they realize how huge the Eagles win was on Sunday?  They were left for dead a couple weeks ago, and now have thrust themselves back in the playoff picture.

What about the 3 way tie out in the AFC East?  The intrigue is awesome.  The Jets with Favre, the Pats without Tom, and the Dolphins with Chad Pennington, the same one that was written off  year ago.

For all the talk about the Steelers huge win, has anyone noticed who the hottest team has been in the AFC North?  The Ravens!

Then there is the AFC West! Wait, nevermind.

As GITC first linked here yesterday afternoon, the New York Mets made the first big move at the Winter Baseball Meetings in Las Vegas.   The Mets landed former Angels closer Fransico Rodriguez for 3 years and $37 million with a vesting option that could make the deal worth 51 over 4 years.  Well done, Mr  Minaya.

The Cleveland Indians are close to a deal with former Cubs pitcher, Kerry Woods.  This would be a great upgrade to their closers situation, since everyone failed in relief of the injured Joe Borowski. Well, Borowski wasn’t much a success either.

I was looking at this Billy Ripken card over Thanksgiving weekend.

Things are not getting better in Detroit.  The Pistosn were up big on the lowly Wizards and blew it.  Fans are going to start wondering if Michael Curry is in over his head, and if Joe Dumars mortgaged the present for the future too early.  The defense is deplorable right now.

This is getting pretty ridiculous with the Cavs.  They are just destroying everyone they are playing.  That LeBron guy is pretty good.  Things seem to really be clicking in Cleveland. I am really looking forward to their next match-up with the Celtics (1/9/09)

All is well with the Redskins, just ask Clinton Portis.  (that is what we call sarcasm).

Did Jerry Jones really call out Marion Barber III? Marion the Barbarian?  I like it, let the circus be back in Dallas this week.

If you missed it, here is Antonio Bryant’s catch on Monday Night Football:

I guess you could say that Barry Melrose is a little bitter.  Screw Tampa.  The Mullet rules!

With all the noise surrounding Michael Phelps in Beijing, the story with Eric Shanteau was overlooked.

Here are early previews and predictions for the upcoming bowl games.

You need to make it a point to watch Stephen Curry whenever he is on TV.  He took down another team, all by himself.

What is the most scientific way of deciding the Heisman vote?  Cheerleaders, of course!

These are all the athletes that Spencer would like to hangout with, at some point.

I am upset that Miz and Mikey didn’t notice this first.  So, Jeff Garcia really is, well you know…
