According to the New York Post, CC Sabathia has agreed with the New York Yankees on a 6 year $140 millon deal.
Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the deal is 7 years and at least $160 million.
We look forward to seeing the Pinstripes slim down Mr. Sabathia.

Kind of like how the pinstripes slimmed down David Wells? Bulldawg(Quote)
if he performs as well as Wells did (ugh), I will be happy, even though the contract is ridiculous. sparty(Quote)
that picture added 90 el beez. mizerle06(Quote)
Jon Heyman confirms it…
Yankees set to sign Sabathia
He also mentions the Yankees are trying to
buysign Burnett and Sheets. john(Quote)burnett is a tad, a tad i say, more durable. sparty(Quote)
Will we be getting a special separate post when Teixeira signs with the Red Sox? john(Quote)
sure. that is a huge deal. but marco or Big D have to do it. sparty(Quote)
This is a huge deal for the Yanks. He’s young. He’s great. And he’s the ace this staff has been missing for years. gatortrey(Quote)
Sparty/Miz. SOrry it took so long, I replied to your email. gatortrey(Quote)
I’d argue that Teixeira is not in the same ballpark as Sabathia…
We gonna do a post for Furcal too? gatortrey(Quote)
who? sparty(Quote)
Well then you’re either overvaluing CC, or undervaluing Tex. john(Quote)
Teix with Ortiz and Youk is scary. sparty(Quote)
Your overvaluing Tex.
He’s a very good player, but not a gamechanging player liek Sabathia. gatortrey(Quote)
…and the MVP and Bay. john(Quote)
Tex will be nice in that lineup, very nice. gatortrey(Quote)
I hope the Yankees at least let CC pinch hit every once in a while. john(Quote)
Is that contract worth a great regular season and not showing up in the post season? HawkEye19(Quote)
yankees threw big money at someone? that never turns out bad
I knew he wouldn’t be back in Milwaukee, but I’m still bitter. sae(Quote)
but thanks for carrying us to the playoffs CC, it was fun
Cubs fan at work is saying it looks like the Cubs may be getting Peavy…maybe Lou changed his mind sae(Quote)
hawkeye-he won’t throw 300 innings sparty(Quote)
300 innings was for the Brewers alone, wasn’t it? sae(Quote)
sparty, did you get my email? gatortrey(Quote)
ESPN says that it is 6 years 160 MILLION.
/makes more sense guyinthecorner(Quote)
God, I’m pissed. ANY TEAM but the freakin’ Yank-mes.
Boys, I was in the equipment room last night at the training facility, standing RIGHT next to the gloves…I could have put my stickum in Braylon’s bin!! I did ask a sarcastic question about glue for B.E. to the assistant trainer that was there…he didn’t find me funny. Little 24 year-old arse.
We went into the locker room after that…I looked for stickum in Braylon’s locker, but there was none. Therein lies his problem. Jen(Quote)
I heard 7 years 160… illformula(Quote)
^assistant equipment manager Jen(Quote)
My bad.
I meant 7/160. guyinthecorner(Quote)
Been busy and sick so let me catch up…
Trey – congrats to Gators for beating Bama. I’m SEC so I hope they stomp a mudhole in OU.
Sparty – Way to single-handedly keep Boise St out of a BSC bowl game. illformula(Quote)
trey, no email, yet sparty(Quote)
same here, trey.
@ill – glad to see you’re alive…was a little worried about you. mizerle06(Quote)
sparty – Problem is he pitched 252 innings last year, and 241 the year before. And, if it was fatigue, how’d CC pitch September with a 1.68 ERA, then finish it up with a 3 inning post season game of 3 innings and a 12 ERA? HawkEye19(Quote)
how’d the LSAT go ill? HawkEye19(Quote)
Damn email. Why does it do this? gatortrey(Quote)
Thanks Ill. It was a great game, and most the Bama fans were civil.
Bama was a much better team than most thought. gatortrey(Quote)
hawkeye-he will be fine.
/optimist sparty(Quote)
Hawkeye – The LSAT blew ass. I just hope the experimental part was the first section.
Miz – It was a horrible weekend. Got hammered and watched QB#15 have a rediculous 2nd half. Then turned around Sunday night, traveled to Baltimore in 15 degree weather and watched the Skins blow just hard enough to get heckled from every person in my section.
All my teams are frauds. illformula(Quote)
*ridiculous

I’m very happy with this deal because of the fact that almost zero pitchers are ever great (i.e. worth $23 million a season) for seven years in a row. Not to mention the fact that he has already had some great years. Unless the Yankees truly believe that C.C, Sabathia is one of the top pitchers of all time, they gave him way too much money. Not just too much, way too much. Add to this his weight problem — which will only get worse (see: Willis, Dontrelle) — and you’ve got yourself a terrible contract. And I almost thought the Yankees were done signing franchise payroll crippling deals. I guess I was wrong. But at least I’m really happy to be wrong. guyinthecorner(Quote)
gitc – “franchise payroll crippling deals” do not exist for the highest spender in a salary-cap-free league. mizerle06(Quote)
“franchise payroll crippling deals…”
that is rich. these are the Yankees, not the Orioles. sparty(Quote)
Sure they do. It doesn’t mean that they need a government issued bailout to not have to sell the team, but as we’ve seen in the last few years, the Yankees have a problem with spending. Even if they want to spend 250 million next year, they won’t because they are conscerned about their image. guyinthecorner(Quote)
Concerned about their image? They’re spending 160 MILLION on a pitcher. What image are they concerned about? gatortrey(Quote)
That’s the funniest thing I’ll read here today. john(Quote)
gitc-what world are you living in? sparty(Quote)
I see very few similarities between Dontrelle Willis and C.C, and none that involve pitching. CC will win 80+ games with the Yankees over the course of this contract. illformula(Quote)
ill – for what the Yankees are paying, he’d better win 100+ over the life of that contract HawkEye19(Quote)
I said 80+ because I believe that 80 wins is the min amount that would be acceptable for the Yankees. I think he’ll win more, but assuming he misses 1 season out of the 7 (30-35 combined starts), he still wins just over 13 games/year. That’s low, but still not bad. illformula(Quote)
gitc is scrambling to find a blurb on these here interwebs to support his theory… sparty(Quote)
100+ he should win at least 115 (slightly less than 16.5 games a year) to be anywhere near worth it Johnny(Quote)
He’ll win 30 next year. Bank on it. gatortrey(Quote)
Fackin Ugh!!! In the end turns out it was all about the money after all. What about your stated preference to play on the west coast, CC? No doubt the players union had a hand in forcing Sabathia to take the highest offer available.
I love the fact that he got the Brewers into the playoffs, but here’s hoping that he blows out his shoulder two years into his contract or gets too fat to be effective.
