We apologize. Seriously. We hyped this weekend up to be the greatest weekend you will see in college football in a long time. We were wrong. It was awful, every game not involving Charlie Weis was a blowout.
Sincerely,
TWTWCFB Guys (but mostly Miz, cause he’s wrong about everything.)(Miz Note: but, really; it was mostly Trey.)
Three’s Company…Well congrats, BCS; we got ourselves a crap storm. If Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma all win out, who goes? If the perfect storm in the Big 12 South happens, here’s my ruling:
- If you don’t win your conference championship, you’re out. At this point Texas or Oklahoma will probably represent the Big 12 South. Why? Because Texas Tech was the latest to lose, and the BCS determines the three way tiebreaker.
- What happens if Missouri wins the Big 12? Well Oklahoma/Texas/Texas Tech could still be sitting there with 1 loss. Too bad they didn’t win their conference. Penn State won their conference, Utah won theirs, USC MAY win theirs.
- Your ruling is good, Trey; what will REALLY happen? If you go chalk, the BCS title game will be SEC Champ winner v. Big 12. This is college football; it will probably be a crap shoot.
Going through the BCS Championship contenders:
1. Alabama – In if they win out. Games left: Auburn; Florida (SEC CG, Atlanta)
2. Texas – Will likely get Big 12 Championship nod, so win out and they’re in. Games left: Texas A&M; Missouri (Kansas City)*
(Miz Note: I’m gonna have to disagree with my esteemed counterpart here. Oklahoma will be in this spot over Texas.)
3. Florida – Win out and they’re in, but it won’t hurt to win big (Miz Jealous Note: mabe they should schedule somebody like…oooh, I don’t know…we’ll say the Citadel for the heck of it.). Games left: @ FSU; Alabama (Atlanta)
4. Oklahoma – They could really use a Texas A&M upset of Texas, which gives them the Big 12 South. But, if somehow they jump Texas, win the Big 12 CG, they’re in. Games left: @ Oklahoma State (Miz Note: I think Texas is in this spot.)
5. USC – They need some help. A Florida loss to FSU, then have Florida beat Alabama in the SEC title is their best hope. All three Big 12 teams losing would get them in, too. Even if Texas Tech doesn’t lose, they likely will not get the nod over USC. (Miz Note: Texas Tech > USC and the voters know it.)They really need Oregon State to lose, so they can have an argument as Pac 10 champ. Games left: Notre Dame, @ UCLA
6. Penn State – They are in the same boat as USC; they need a similar SEC situation, or all Big 12 teams to lose. In both circumstances, they will be helped by a Notre Dame or UCLA win over USC. Games left: None.
7. Texas Tech – They need an Oklahoma State win over Oklahoma; which would give them the tie-breaker over Texas and a chance at winning the Big 12. An added convenience would be a USC loss to Notre Dame or UCLA, or the SEC situation previously mentioned; plus a little love from the pollsters never hurts. Games left: Baylor
8. Utah – They need a combination of the aforementioned SEC situation, all three Big 12 teams to lose, and a USC loss. With this, they also need some love from the pollsters pitting Penn State and Utah in the BCS title game. Basically, Utah needs a miracle. Games left: None.
After last year’s genius Illinois pick…At this point the powers that be in Pasadena have all purchased some hideous Oregon merchandise, sacrificed a beaver, and hired a witch doctor to throw a hex on Mike Riley. Do they REALLY want a rematch of the September 6th blowout? (Miz Note: I do. tO$U is playing better ball and I’m sure they’d like another shot at USC.) (Trey Note: I’d like that one, too. I was referring to the more likely Oregon State v. Penn State matchup)
Tradition seems to stick to you, just like crazy glue…Or that gum you stepped in last week that just won’t let go of your soul sole. Isn’t it about time the Big 10 just stop this “we have to finish football before Thanksgiving weekend” crap? Imagine the bricks fall the way of Penn State (Oklahoma loses to Oklahoma State, Texas loses to A&M, etc.) and they find themselves in Miami on January 8th. They will have to wait 46 days in between games. How’s that worked out for the Big Televen the past few years!? Ooooooooh!
We don’t give a damn about the whole state of…Michigan fans have got to be glad that thing is over. As bad as the App State loss was, losing 9 games was much worse. If I were Rich Rodriguez I’d be using the extended Michigan offseason to find a quarterback that can: pass, run, read defenses, call plays, and most importantly, play football. (Disclaimer…TWTWCFB cares about every state equally; it’s just fun to say we don’t). (Miz Note: We actually favor the state of Tennessee a little bit more…but I digress.)
And if your reading this and you go by “sparty” on the internet…On Saturday at 3:30 PM in State College, PA, a football game between Penn State and Michigan State was NOT played. The final score was NOT 49-18. That is all.
Which brings another point…Ask Michigan and Arkansas how bad their previous season’s coaching situations were now. You hear me Clemson, Tennessee, and maybe Auburn?
Bill Synder is Back…Who? Bill Synder. Ummm, ok. Ya know, the old Kansas State coach. No? Turned the program into a national power? Doesn’t ring a bell? Well he took his old job back. Ooooooh…THAT Bill Synder.
A final rant**…Can we please open these bowl affiliations up a little? Boise State will go 12-0 and they’ll earn a birth to…The Humanitarian Bowl in…beautiful Boise, Idaho against…the 8th place ACC team. Could you imagine at the very least, Boise State v. Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl? Ball State v. Kentucky in the Music City Bowl? Heck lets put Boise State against Ball State in any bowl. You think the Cotton Bowl is amped about taking a 8-4 Ole Miss team? Speaking of which, how about MORE New Years Day Bowls. I know you don’t want anything head to head with the Rose Bowl, but what happened last year when the game was a turd? Boredom.
Overrated/Underrated:
- TWTWCFB’s Overrated/Underrated for Week 13
Miz: Overrated…because we’re not doing it this week.
Trey: What Miz said…and we planned on doing one, until Miz Kayaked down a waterfall and ended up in a land of claymation dinosaurs and weird alien looking things…
Who’s Hot:
- Oklahoma – Before you give us the big DUH, they’ve been under the radar since they lost to Texas a month and a half ago. While Florida has been getting props as a team just rolling week in and out, Oklahoma has done the same thing with zero love!
- Tennessee - A win’s a win’s a win. Should be an emotional game in Kneauxville this week: last game of a REALLY bad season, last game of Fulmer’s career at Tennessee, and Tennessee trying to hang with Ohio State as the only two Division 1 teams to never have had an 8-loss season (Michingan completed that trifecta prior to this season, but, well…we all know what happened up there).
- Rutgers - Everyone left them for dead after the first few weeks; and then, they remembered they played in the Big East. So, now the mighty Knights who wear Scarlett are bowl eligible. I’ve heard Birmingham has good BBQ…but don’t ask Miz, he’ll just send ya to Sonny’s. (Miz Note: Trey’s been waiting all weekend to bring that up.)
Who’s Not:
- LSU - EAUXH NEAUX!!!!!!!!! The Tigers lost at home to Ole Miss. They’re “rebuilding,” so it’s only fair that the defending champs would struggle, but it’s still fun to use the “-eaux” suffix in place of and or every Veauxweauxl.
- Washington – Lost in the the Doo Doo Apple Cup to Washington State, giving them a winless season. The next coach will have to rebuild what Tyrone Willingham rebuilt.
- Notre Dame - Charlie Weis better win 9 games next year, or he’s not going to be invited back for the 2010 season. Notre Dame has to be one of the most inconsistent teams in the country. One week they look like they’re improving, the next they’re losing to a team that hasn’t beaten a bowl eligible team since 2006. I’m sure Notre Dame learned their lesson after they gave him that large contract after 6 games in 2005.
Well, well, well…we’ve got a new contestant. Sam Bradford of Norman, Oklahoma…come on down!
1a. Colt McCoy was off this past week…
Season – Passing: 268-347 for 3134 yards, 30 TD’s, and 7 Int’s. ; Rushing: 117 attempts for 527 yards and 8 TD’s.
Opinion: Jumped back up to the top spot by default. McCoy’s rushing efforts are all that seperate him from Bradford at this point. He can use an in-state rivalry game with A&M, coming up this weekend, to pad his stats.
1b. Sam Bradford joins the discussion after dismantling the Texas Tech defense.
Against Texas Tech - Passing: 14-19 for 304 yards, 4 TD’s, and 0 Int’s. ; Rushing: 5 attempts for 18 yards and 0 TD’s.
Season – Passing: 238-349 for 3710 yards, 42 TD’s, and 6 Int’s. ; Rushing: 35 attempts for 42 yards and 4 TD’s.
Opinion: Bradford has the opportunity to firmly entrench himself in the top spot if he can put up some big numbers in a convincing win over Oklahoma State this upcoming Saturday. Harrell’s compilation of stats is better than Bradford’s, but Bradford just won the head-to-head meeting between the two and outshined Harrell in the process.
2a. Timmy Tebow keeps getting “screwed” by the offensive prowess of his fellow Gators…
Against The Citadel – Passing: 9-11 for 201 yards, 3 TD’s, and 0 Int’s. ; Rushing: 2 attempts for 34 yards and 0 TD’s.
Season – Passing: 148-225 for 2114 yards, 22 TD’s, and 2 Int’s. ; Rushing: 121 attempts for 427 yards and 11 TD’s.
Opinion: Tebow got pulled early to let Brantley play out the rest of the game. At this point in the season, whether he’s having a better year than his Heisman winning campaign or not, he’s not going to win. The Big 12 guys have much more gaudy stats. Hopefully, Tebow will get an invite to New York as recognition for his outstanding year; but barring a miracle, he’s not going to win. There’s still a rivalry game against Florida State left to play so maybe he can grab some attention this weekend. It’s unnecessary, however, for Florida to risk using Tebow more than required just to help his Heisman chances.
2b. Graham Harrell was off this week… had a defense actually stand up to him and the Red Raider’s air assault. Statistically, he still had a decent game…
Against Oklahoma – Passing: 33-55 for 361 yards, 3 TD’s, and 1 Int’s. ; Rushing: 4 attempts for 38 yards and 0 TD’s.
Season – Passing: 365-518 for 4438 yards, 39 TD’s, and 6 Int’s. ; Rushing: 32 attempts for 33 yards and 6 TD’s.
Opinion: We’ve got him in the “bottom” right now mostly because the Red Raiders lost and he couldn’t get it going against the Sooners and looked a little rattled sometimes. He’s got the best cumulative personal stats of all four of these guys so we think he’ll be back up around the top if he can hold it together and put up some big numbers in their final game agaisnt Baylor this weekend.
* If the season ended today, they’d be the team there.
** Until our next one.
BCS Standings Note:
We here at TWTWCFB don’t have a particular gripe about the week 13 BCS standings. The reason? Almost every team that has a legitimate argument for participation in the national championship game still has significant games remaining on the schedule. #1 Bammer has Auburn and then a head-to-head in the SEC CG with the #4 Gators, who will have a prior match to settle against Florida State first. #2 Texas, #3 Oklahoma, and #7 Texas Tech all have one more game before the BCS determines who represents the Big 12 South in the Big 12 CG. #5 USC still has two rivalry games scheduled in Notre Dame and UCLA and need help from another team to win the weak-ass PAC 10. Sorry, #6 Utah and #8 Penn State; you’ve both completed your seasons and don’t have a spider’s chance in Mrs. mizerle’s house without multiple major upsets. We’ll likely have another special edition of TWTWCFB to discuss this further.

I guess you missed the teaser part of my comment. sparty(Quote)

The best MNC would be a Texas/OU rematch. Read it and weep. clown(Quote)
clown, that would be a terrible champ game.
however, i would definitely say that the Big 12 > SEC this year…without a doubt. but, I’m not sure the best Big 12 > the best SEC. that’s why it would make the best champ game. mizerle06(Quote)
If you love Arena Football, that would be a great game. patphish(Quote)
Clown, won’t happen. If Ohio State and Michigan a ratings winner didn’t get in, no chance in hell a Texas/OU rematch will happen. gatortrey(Quote)
I know it won’t happen. I’m just saying it would be the best one. Florida and Bammer are both frauds. One will be exposed in Miami. clown(Quote)
Ya… gatortrey(Quote)
Remember that time that everyone was so so so so sure that Michigan and Ohio State were the two best teas in the country.
And the SEC was down, way down.
ANd Florida was picked over Michigan
And Florida blew the potent Buckeyes defense off the field.
And Florida held the Heiman trophy winning QB led potent offense to 89 yards.
It’s like that. gatortrey(Quote)
SEC winner > Big 12 winner
book it, clown! mizerle06(Quote)
care to wager a post? clown(Quote)
absolutely! what are the terms/spoils? mizerle06(Quote)
don’t embarrass me, miz. I do a fine job of that on my own. sparty(Quote)
When the Big XII rep debacles the SEC chump, you submit a post to MLJ exalting the greatness of said winner. I will do the same if the SEC team is victorious for S&F, right after the plane lands on fantasy island. clown(Quote)
Dee plane…dee plane!!! sparty(Quote)
agreed! mizerle06(Quote)
and if I win the bet, you have to make S&F a balloon animal, too. mizerle06(Quote)
Or make a balloon motorcycle…it’ll go well with miz’s wooden one. rekcalsa(Quote)
SEC loser> Big 12 Winner.
My God, Tech gave up 65, Oklahoma gave up 45 then 30+ for a month and Texas’ coach is Mack Brown and Vince Young is killing himself in Nashville now…….. patphish(Quote)
And hell PSU would give anybody in the country a game Johnny(Quote)
Johnny’s brain> Clown’s brain patphish(Quote)
Iowa, the team that beat all-world Penn State, couldn’t put away the worst team in the Big XII until the 4th quarter. Any of the top 4 Big XII South teams would run roughshod over the plodding, slow-as-molasses, good-defensive-stats-because-they-haven’t-played-any-type-of-quality-competition Nittany Lions.
/daily dose of science clown(Quote)
Amazing, at least 6 of those slow skill guys will get drafted. PSU would score all day on the Big 12 D’s. patphish(Quote)
NEW POST guyinthecorner(Quote)
SEC is wayyyyyy overrated this year, but the 2 at the top are still pretty good. Whoever wins the SEC Championship will have 2 wins against a team that finishes the regular season ranked, both beating Georgia, and also the loser of the championship game.
The difference between a rematch between tOSU and Michigan vs. a rematch between Oklahoma and Texas is that the Buckeys won that game on the last game of the season. Texas played Oklahoma in October, so it’s a bit removed.
The Big 12 is the best conference. It would be great if Florida beat Alabama, so that whatever Big 12 South team finishes 4th (probably Oklahoma State) will win the Cotton Bowl against the Ol’ Miss team that won At Florida and At LSU. natsfan74(Quote)
I don’t know if you know this about Iowa but they lost 4 games by a combined 12 points. How many points did Tech lose by this past week? With the way they’re playing now I think they could match up with anybody especially at Iowa.
Just for once I’d like to see one of those southern schools come up north to play in november when it’s cold and windy and snowy. How fast would they look then? Johnny(Quote)
