Chicago Beatdown

Submitted by sparty on October 7, 2008 – 2:30 pm2 Comments

How do you get athletes to stay in line on the court and in the classroom? Beat the piss out of them, damn skippy.

An investigative report out of Chicago has found that the use of corporal punishment is in effect at a handful of high schools.  These are not just any high schools, they are state championship winning schools.  Not that it makes it any better or worse. (Pic after jump may be NSFW)

The 2 Investigators have learned at least five Chicago public schools are now under investigation for beating athletes including Wendell Phillips High School and John Marshall High School, home of numerous state championship teams.

In recent years, we have been hearing a ton of stories about hazing within high schools and there has been a crackdown on that, but not it looks as if the schools and coaches need to be watched even as closely as the students.  What is most surprising, is that this practice was made illegal only back in 1994.
