If I Can be Serious for a Moment…

Allianz Field?

Allianz Field?

How many of you would drive a Mustang Cobra if you could?  Not asking you if you would necessarily purchase it over any other car, but if it was made available to you, would you drive one?  Of course you would.  We have an infatuation with the Mustang.  We love it!  It is the real true muscle car of this country.

Do any of you not like Ford vehicles?  Probably so.  If you don’t, it is probably because they are an American car manufacturer, and they have a reputation for needing more frequent repairs than foreign vehicles (psst, not true).  Correct?  How many of you do not like Ford’s or refuse to drive one because the founder, Henry Ford,  had known ties to the Nazi regime?  Adolf Hitler had a life size portrait of Mr. Ford on his wall.  The Nazi’s gave their highest medal of honor to him.  Ford admired Hitler, and is on record that he did not agree with the Roosevelt administration on a lot of things, especially becoming involved in World War II. Which is retarded, because we were not involved until after Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese.  Germany and Italy then declared war on us. Enough with the history lesson.

So Sparty, WTF is this all about?  Glad you asked, Miz.  Some of Jewish community, as well as Gary Meyers of NYDN is up and arms with the World Champion New York Football Giants and the other team they share a stadium with.   The new stadium will not be called Giants Stadium.  In another effort to help pay for the construction, it will have a corporate name.  That business most likely to hold the naming rights will be Allianz, a financial and insurance services company.  The HQ for the business is in Munich, Germany.  Yep, you know where this is going, right?  The business at one time had ties to the Nazi’s.  In fact, former board member Kurt Schmitt was even an economic advisor to Adolf Hitler.  They insured concentration camps, where millions of Jews died during Hitler’s reign of terror.  Ever since the end of World War II, and the fall of the Third Reich, the company has been making amends for the faults that the former employers made.

Wait, but there is such gigantic Jewish population in the NYC-NJ area.  How dare we allow this to happen?!?  Mr. Meyers, I enjoy your work covering pro football, you really do a wonderful job. But why are you reporting about a controversy that shouldn’t be? I’m sorry to say that if Jewish people are so outraged by this, then they shouldn’t be driving Ford, BMW, Mercedes, or Porsche (the article does point out that one individual refuses to drive anything made by Germans).  I sure hope you never used any IBM products, or if you had a headache, used Bayer Aspirin.  Hugo Boss supplied uniforms for the SS Army and the Hitler Youth.  You definitely would never let your kids wear his clothes or his cologne.  Maybe Jewish families and survivors of the Holocaust have kept a running list of all these and other companies, and make sure that their money doesn’t go to any of these corporations.  But judging by my own experience of growing up in Bloomfield Hills, MI, I would say that for the most part, that is not the case.  I went to a High School where half the population was Jewish, and most of their parents drove Mercedes or BMW’s.  When in 7th grade, I was invited to about 100 Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.  I have been around the culture, a lot.  BTW, my father is Jewish.  I remember kids parents driving us to the Jewish Community Center to check out the Holocaust Memorial, in their Mercedes and Ford’s(even had Jewish friends who’s fathers work high up in the company).  Just saying, that not as many people are outraged about things like this as it is being made out to be.

Why should we punish the people for the mistakes made by people that came before them anyway?  Is that fair?  Of course not.  Part of the process in healing, is being able to forgive those who have wronged us.  Look, I am not saying that those who are offended have no right to feel the way they do.  They are completely justified in being hurt by the atrocities that took place.  By no means should we forget what happened.   What Hitler and the Third Reich did was terrible.  However, we should not hold Allianz responsible today, and try to keep them from promoting their own business.  Not in this capitalistic and forgiving country that we live in.

Are the Giants and the other team going to make a profit off this? Hell yeah they will.  Are they being insensitive to Jewish people? No.  50% of the Ownership of the WCNYFG is owned by a Jewish family (the Tisch’s).  If you want to get on ownership, get on them about forcing season ticket holders to pay outrageous PSL fees to have the right to buy season tickets.  That my friend is insensitive.

Now I suppose that I may have ruffled a few feathers, that I myself may come across as brash.  I just see no issue here.  It is good business by the football teams.  Allianz is not the same company it was back in the first part of last century.  Like we said before, they have made several attempts to make things right.  Show some humility yourself.  We have so many other problems in this country right now,  so let’s drop this phony controversy, forgive and move forward.

    From a Jewish person-

There are many companies that my family refuses to buy from. Notably: Ikea, Braun, and Mercedes.

That said, most people confine the boycotts to companies that were actually run by Nazis or companies that built things that killed people like the planes built by Mercedes.

I do not hold it against people who don’t buy from any German companies or people that buy from all German companies.

That said, I doubt the naming of a stadium would be a problem. Most people object to giving the company money. In this case, the company is paying money.

used to drive a Ford Probe for about 2 years and didn’t really have problems with it but based on the brand’s reputation, I would most likely not buy another Ford.

Re: outrage and punishment for sins of the father…

I am a typical mutt-American. over many generations, my family members mixed up some German, Irish, Scottish, and Cherokee Indian in a gene pool and baked the concoction for 9 months to get this delicious southern-Appalachian dish, whose genetically missing a tooth or two, known as mizerle06.

as you can see from my known geneology, I have zero historical animosity to use to be bitter towards any other nationality/race. I have always found it intriguing to gauge when other nationalities/races that have been historically wronged (i.e. slavery, holocaust, etc) feel it’s time to start moving on and stop blaming ancestors of the people that wronged their ancestors.

    I agree.

I am a ‘Honda Snob’. I also drive a Subaru. I use the Ford acronyms that miz used all the time since the P.O.S. Escort my brothers and I shared as youths made me feel that way.
